Obtaining required performance from a system depends heavily on underlying control mechanisms. The study of system behaviors as signals and the information that can be drawn from them are critical to determining system performance. Basic concepts of control theory are presented in the context of key technologies that incorporate and/or exhibit control behaviors. Signal theory including time and frequency domain representations and analysis are also presented.
