Catalog description

Professionalism and Consulting in Engineering is a unique class that equips students with the best practices in becoming a true engineering professional, while also giving them a real-world opportunity to learn and apply fundamental concepts and skills in consulting and entrepreneurship. Establishing your own consulting business, finding clients and managing their expectations, negotiating contracts, importance of communication skills, time and project management, protecting intellectual property, preparing contracts and avoiding contract disputes, understanding and handling local, social, cultural, and ethical issues, as well as basic financial literacy topics are discussed. The course also has an important practicum component that allows students to identify their unique skills, find a proper client and project to market those skills, and provide consulting services to those clients and projects.
