Catalog description

This course will introduce students to the theories and applications of nonverbal communication. These theories and concepts will be applied to interpersonal, health, mediated, organizational, and intercultural communication contexts. The topics studied will include messages of and about the human body (physical traits and artifacts), the communicative use of space, gaze, touch, facial expressions of emotions, and the channels of voice and gesture. Students will be tested on their knowledge through a variety of discussions, application papers, and exams.
