Catalog description

Storyboarding and Animation for Media and Industry is a foundational, interdisciplinary course introducing techniques and professional workflows in 2D digital animation and pre-visualization. Students from biomedical visualization, media, communication, health sciences, engineering, technology, and humanities disciplines develop skills in visual storytelling, motion timing, staging, framing, and sequential composition using industry-standard software. The course emphasizes commercial production practices, including storyboarding, animatics, and short-form animated sequences used across media, education, science, health, research, and industry contexts. Emerging generative AI tools are incorporated for visual ideation, concept development, and motion studies, preparing students for evolving industry workflows. Through applied projects, students learn to translate ideas and processes into clear, audience-focused visual narratives, providing a foundation for advanced coursework and professional practice.
