Catalog description

Introduction to 3D Modeling for Media and Industry is a foundational, interdisciplinary course that introduces students to the principles and practices of digital 3D content creation for applied industry and media contexts. Students from science, technology, engineering, humanities, communication, health sciences, film, and media will develop introductory skills in modeling organic and inorganic forms, from observational to conceptual and narrative-based processes. Coursework emphasizes professional workflows used in commercial production pipelines, integrating both industry-standard software and emerging generative AI tools for visualization and previsualization. Students will create models for characters, objects, and environments designed for applications in film, media, research, and interactive immersive platforms, including Virtual, Augmented, and Extended Reality. The course prepares students for future coursework and career pathways where 3D visualization plays a critical role in communication, media design, and innovation.
