Catalog description

This course, conducted in American Sign Language (ASL), provides an introduction to the linguistics of ASL, beginning with an examination of general principles of language and linguistics as applied to all languages, both spoken and signed. This foundation of general linguistic principles is used as a framework for understanding specific structural properties of ASL. Students analyze ASL language samples in terms of their phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. Students are required to participate in Deaf Immersion events outside of class time.
