Integrated Biomedical Sciences. In this block, students will develop foundational knowledge of the human host–pathogen relationship, which is essential for clinical patient care and the evidence-based management of orofacial infections. Through the integration of biomedical sciences and clinical application, students will examine the mechanisms of infectious diseases affecting both oral and systemic health, with particular emphasis on infections of the oral cavity. Clinical case studies will be used to illustrate the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of infectious processes. Students will also study the principles of antimicrobial therapy, including mechanisms of action, spectrum of activity, resistance, and clinical decision-making relevant to dental practice.
