Documentary Field Production

Catalog description

Students in this course will work in small documentary crews of 3-4, shooting weekly assignments in the field. We will shoot digital HD format in these group projects. Emphasis will be on developing a shooting intuition, gathering clean sound, shooting to edit, and interviewing skills. We will also shoot one project using multiple cameras. We will examine different creative approaches to reality subjects and test possible techniques such as incorporating fiction techniques. Students will be expected to edit the projects they direct into short 3-4 minute films for class critiques.
