Applied Practice in Theatre Production

Catalog description

This in-depth practicum course provides motivated students interested in technical theatre, theatre design, or stage management with a comprehensive, hands-on mentorship experience working on a theatrical production. Students will be assigned an advanced role on a production, such as lead designer, dramaturg, or head stage manager, and will engage in the practical application of skills necessary to produce live theatre. Throughout the course, students will work closely with the director and their faculty mentor to collaborate on School of Performing Arts productions from concept through performance, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. Through this experiential-learning process, students will develop a strong understanding of theatrical production goals, timelines, workflows, roles, and expectations. Students will develop leadership skills and strategies for problem-solving in deadline-driven situations. This course may replace PRFL 220: Theatre Ensemble in completing the Theatre Arts Minor.
