Catalog description

This course explores the founding principles of the American political order and their contemporary relevance. In addition, the course will examine the extent to which the three political institutions of American government (legislature, executive, and judiciary) have either adhered to or departed from the founding principles. Emphasis will be placed upon reading and analyzing primary sources from the founding era and some of the more influential perspectives on American government drawn from the Civil War period to the 20th century.
