Nature Photography
Rochester Institute of Technology · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This application-based photography course teaches students to apply scientific, technical, and graphic imaging principles to enhance natural and scientific photography in the field, lab, or studio. Students will produce publication-quality images using conventional and close-up lenses, scanners, artificial light sources (such as flash and flashlights), and ambient light modifiers like diffusers and tents while documenting specimens. The course also covers post-production software and explores the constraints and ethics of image manipulation in natural science communication and publication. Students will photograph as their schedules permit and are encouraged to participate in volunteer field trips.
