Catalog description

New Signers Program (NSP) is a one-week course designed for deaf and hard-of-hearing students who have no previous knowledge of American Sign Language. The New Signers Program course includes linguistic features, Deaf cultural protocols, and vocabulary for students to function in introductory level ASL conversations. Course topics include ASL grammar for asking and answering questions while introducing oneself, naming hometown, naming family members, NTID/RIT names, college life terms, and everyday vocabulary discussing social activities. Six hours of daily classroom/lab/homework activities include practicing conversations, learning about Deaf Culture and Deaf Community, and keeping a written journal.
