Dialogue on Black Perspectives

Catalog description

This course will challenge students to analyze and compare various perceptions about Black American life in the 21st century. This course includes but is not limited to racial, economic, social movements, ideological shifts and their impact on past and current events. Viewpoints on identity, language, relationships, and generational differences will be explored through assigned readings, lectures, case studies, guest speakers and multimedia resources. In addition, the course examines the unique experiences and perspectives of Black Deaf individuals, focusing on intersectionality, language, and culture. Students will learn various dialogue techniques for facilitating meaningful conversations, resolving conflicts and fostering understanding among diverse groups. Upon completion of this course, it is anticipated that students will have a broader knowledge of the multidimensional aspects of the Black experience.
