Catalog description

This course will introduce students to the components of building construction and environmental control systems with consideration of the building envelope as the primary control system for function and human comfort. An overview of building construction types will include light frame, heavy steel, concrete, and masonry as well as key components and subsystems for egress, vertical circulation, fire control, habitation, environmental controls, and comfort. Students will develop an understanding of sustainability, site conditions, construction processes and components, and code considerations for professional practice.
