Catalog description

This course presents the basic technologies of fiber-optic telecommunications systems including optical fiber, light sources and modulators, photodetectors and receivers, and passive components such as optical mux/demux and couplers. Students will learn the principle of operation of these technologies as well as gain practical hands-on experience in the laboratory. Students will also learn how to design and assess a fiber-optic link impaired by attenuation and dispersion.
