Catalog description

Students will be introduced to the basic design and interface of sensor systems that are commonly used in biomedical apparatus. We will discuss computer architecture; various analog electrical (voltage and current) interfaces; transducer and electro-mechanical interfacing (photodiodes, photomultipliers, radiation detectors, thermocouples, thermistors, pressure sensors, strain sensors, motors and solenoids); microprocessor design and use; basic analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog techniques: and elementary signal processing techniques, all as applied to biomedical equipment.
