Catalog description
Builds upon knowledge and skills attained in Medical Surgical I and presents nursing care of the medical/surgical adult client with alterations in cardiovascular, hematology/immunologic/lymphatic, endocrine, and reproductive functions. The course covers appropriate pharmacologic agents related to these systems and their actions, uses, and side effects; client education on proper nutrition and diet modifications related to the use of these medications; client education on proper nutrition and diet therapy necessary for health restoration and maintenance. This course includes a 180-hour clinical component. The clinical portion of the course builds upon Medical Surgical Nursing I. Students utilize the nursing process to demonstrate basic to advance clinical nursing skills in a variety of health care settings under the supervision of an instructor. The role and responsibilities of the practical nurse as a health team member are emphasized. This course requires a fee for learning materials. Students must pass both the theory and clinical components of this course with 80% in each component to successfully complete the course and advance in the Practical Nursing program.
