Catalog description

Applies theory of nursing practice in clinical settings for the provision of care to clients experiencing psychopathological, emotional, and behavioral alterations. Presents appropriate pharmacologic agents, their actions, uses, and side effects; client education on proper nutrition and diet modifications related to the use of these medications, along with proper nutrition and diet therapy necessary for health restoration and maintenance. Healthy activities necessary to promote and maintain optimal mental health are explored. Using the nursing process, students demonstrate appropriate communication techniques and serve as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team in the care of a selected client in the mental health setting. This course includes a 45-hour clinical component. Students must pass both the theory and clinical components of this course with 80% in each component.
