Practical Nursing Perspectives

Catalog description
Includes concepts of health, health maintenance, and human development throughout the life cycle. The effects of stress and related defense or coping mechanisms are introduced, along with the use of therapeutica communication. The course includes trends in healthcare; local, state, and national health resources available for the maintenance of health; patients' rights and esponsibilities; and the local, state, and national resources available to help patients make informed decision. Additionally, the course covers the role of the practical nurse, the history of practical nursing education, necessary vocational adjustments, the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners, and laws and rules governing practical nursing practice in Louisiana (the Revised Statutes; Title 37, Chapter 11, Subpart II, Practical Nurses and Louisiana Administrative Code (LAC) 46:XLVII, Nurses, Subpart 1, Practical Nurses). Legal, ethical, and cultural issues relevant to client care are addressed. Medical terms and commonly used medical/nursing abbreviations are also covered.
