Teaching & Learning Life & Music at the Piano

Catalog description
This course is designed to be a detailed study of the teaching and learning of life and music at the piano, with particular focus on beginning study and its long-range educational trajectory. While methodology of teaching at various ages (stages of development) will be discussed, the primary goal will be to consider what can and/or should be taught at the beginning of music study at the piano. Students will be encouraged to observe at least five private and/or group beginner piano lessons to witness outside-of-class practice related to in-class theory discussions and considerations. Pre-requisite: TH 141 Musicianship I (minimum grade of C-) or permission of instructor.
