Catalog description

The Internship offers students majoring in mathematics or actuarial science a hands-on experience through placement in industry, government, or academic settings. By applying theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges, students gain practical insights into professional practices and environments. Internship placements are supervised and evaluated by both the employer and the faculty advisor. Students will develop critical skills such as problem-solving, data analysis, and professional communication, while exploring career paths in mathematics or actuarial science. Internship credits cannot be applied toward the elective requirements for the major. Grading is on a pass/fail basis. Available to math and actuarial science majors/minors only. One internship may be scheduled in a semester, and up to 8 credits of internship may count toward graduation. Approval of the faculty sponsor, department chair, and CAS dean's office is required.
