Catalog description
Introduction to death and dying in the framework of religious traditions. Discussion-based course; no prerequisites. Study of how religious traditions have approached death and dying, including theological beliefs, rituals, and community practices. Exploration of whether current practices around death and dying intersect or diverge with religious. We will study hospice, hospital, palliative, and end-of-life care. Study of various religions, including ancient Mesopotamia; ancient Egypt; Zoroastrianism; the Abrahamic monotheisms of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam; and Buddhism.
