This course outlines the relationship between literary studies and the study of empire, colonialism in the Russian sphere of influence, and the contemporary effects of both. Offered during SSA: Caucasus, this course examines the orientalizing literature of 19th century Russian Romanticism, Soviet and Georgian films, and contemporary novels by female authors from the region. On site fieldtrips to relevant sites included.
