Catalog description
Study of the symbiotic relationship between painting and poetry in Chinese art, spanning from the 11th century to the present. After finishing a painting, Chinese artists would write an accompanying poetic inscription, integrating it into the artwork’s abstract design. Exploration of the materiality and social meaning of Chinese paintings, as well as the potency of combining the “three perfections”—poetry, cal-ligraphy, and painting.
