Catalog description

This course encompasses the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, how to safely work with biohazardous materials and bloodborne pathogens, and an overview of HIV an d hepatitis as they relate to healthcare providers. The basics of medical terminology including word roots, prefixes, suffixes, combining forms and word-building rules are presented along with terms used to describe and define anatomical locations. Course work also includes training in basic first aid and certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED). Students must pass the CPR/first aid exam and practicum to pass this course. Medical documentation is also covered in this course.
