Foundations of Teaching and Learning in the ELA Classroom

& Spring In this introductory course, Relay students will learn about the fundamental concepts of secondary ELA and begin to explore and understand their own identity as secondary ELA teachers to reflect on and make equitable choices in their classroom. They will plan for and practice establishing a classroom that is equitable and inclusive of students and families. They will engage in standards-aligned planning that highlights the selection of rigorous, complex texts as the center of their classrooms, and will examine how to leverage a close reading approach when reading a complex text. Finally, they will plan for and practice teaching new material and collecting formative assessment evidence of student learning.
