Catalog description

This course addresses contemporary social problems (e.g., crime and poverty) from a sociological perspective. How do some situations come to be defined as problems while others are not? What issues are involved in creating social programs or policies to address social problems? Students use sociological theories to explain the problems and sociological research to identify how prevalent the situation is and what interventions are effective. No prerequisite. (Offered every term.)
