Catalog description
This course will examine the intersections of religion, media, and popular culture. Religion often expresses itself in popular culture through the arts and various forms of media, while religion frequently expresses itself thorugh religious memes and other presentations. By studying the genres of magazines, film, newspapers, broadcast news, comics, music, and other cultural products, we will discover how beliefs, ideals, practices, institutions from various religious traditions shape popular culture and mediate. Prerequsite: none. (Offered as needed.) Credit: 4.
