Music History and Literature I

Catalog description

A detailed study of the evolution of musical styles and forms from the beginning of western music through the Baroque stylistic period. Representative works and composers will be examined as students build a technique for listening analytically and critically. Emphasis is placed on lecture, student research, writing, and the development of critical, cognitive, and evaluate aural skills. Writing assignments, including several brief projects and a research paper, are required. This course fulfills the Writing Intensive requirement for the music major. Required for music majors. Non-majors by permission only. (Offered every fall term.)
