Catalog description

This course is designed to lead candidates through an examination of both the ethical and legal dimensions of school leadership. Candidates will explore current legal issues facing students and educators as well as landmark court cases that have shaped the schools of today. Topics to be presented and discussed include due process, search and seizure, staff evaluation, bilingual education, sexual discrimination and harassment, and the education of exceptional children. Candidates will be prepared to design protocols and processes that ensure compliance with legal and ethical obligations. At the completion of this course, candidates will have built a solid foundation of legal and ethical understanding in preparation for this critical leadership role.
