Sports communicate societal values and norms. This course will analyze the history of sports and its relationship to culture. Specific topics may include the functions of sports in the formulation of identities of individuals, groups, teams and society as well as the relationship between sports, media and culture. Prerequisite: COM 101 or MMS 101 or permission of the instructor. (Offered every fall term.) Credit:
