Cross Cultural Psychology

Catalog description

Examination and restructuring of the major psychological principles from a cultural perspective. A study of the diversity of development of the individual across Asian, African-American, Latino/a, and American Indian/Alaskan Native cultures will be presented. The experience of self, role of the family and community, and the psychology of prejudice will be emphasized. Issues related to the workplace, religion, sexual orientation, ability status, and gender will also be discussed. Not open to students with credit in PSY 33400. Prerequisite(s): PSY 12000 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate a working knowledge of major psychological concepts within a cross-cultural context. 2. Increase awareness of stereotypes, prejudice, and other forms of cultural biases. 3. Develop a more detailed understanding of at least one non-familiar minority group. 4. Consider a personal privilege and explore the ways it has impacted attitudes both inter and intrapersonally. View Class Schedule
