Catalog description

This course is a three-credit course including supervised practice experience in an organization providing human services for a variety of client populations. It places emphasis on increased knowledge and skills for working with client systems, i.e., individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. This is accomplished through an educationally supervised practicum of 300 hours (for traditional students) and 250 hours (for Advanced Standing students) and participation in a weekly/biweekly integrative seminar. The primary purpose of the Advanced Practicum is to educate students to apply advanced social work services. Students use professional social work field instruction to advance learning and apply knowledge and social work ethics and values to their practice with clients and communities that enhance social well-being. This is the second level of the graduate practicum curriculum. Prerequisite: SWRK 59000. Prerequisite(s): SWRK 59000 FOR LEVEL GR WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Understand the potential impact of the organizational and field contexts on the personal and professional self, critically reflecting about themselves, and articulating the importance and relevance of self-care, as evidenced by the social worker interview assignment. 2. Demonstrate awareness of current topics and key issues impacting practice, as evidenced by participation in seminar discussions. 3. Demonstrate competent practice skills and increasing knowledge and skills in the provision of services for a variety of client populations. View Class Schedule
