Psychopathology & Social Work Assessment II

Catalog description

This course covers the domain of psychopathology as represented in the current version of the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). The scientific bases of contemporary theories and research of major psychological disorders will be studied. Students will be educated about the types and causes of mental disorders, their assessment, treatment plans, referrals for services, prognosis, related research in psychotherapy, and prevention. Prerequisite: SWRK 64000. Prerequisite(s): SWRK 64000 FOR LEVEL GR WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Interpret the values and ethics that guide professional practice. 2. Apply self-awareness and assess one’s own values relative to people in crisis. 3. Identify the importance of diversity and the spheres of diversity. 4. Evaluate and differentiate various theoretical perspectives and empirical knowledge about psychosocial dysfunctions. 5. Differentiate between functional and dysfunctional adaptive patterns and coping strategies. 6. Apply the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5 and recognize its limitations. 7.
