This course is the second of a sequence. The focus on mezzo (groups, organizations) and macro (community) as the social work client. Attention is given to the impact of human diversity, discrimination, oppression and social justice as they affect groups, organizations and communities. Typically offered Spring. Prerequisite(s): SWRK 32100 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C+ Course Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course the student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate a foundation of theoretical knowledge regarding the structure and function of the small groups, organizations social environment and its impact upon the human experience. 2. Identify and express the values and ethics of the social work profession with an understanding of, and respect for, the positive values of diversity. 3. Exhibit an understanding of the dynamics and effects of social, cultural, economic, and political oppression and discrimination on individuals and groups. 4. Understand the strategies for change that seek to advance social and economic justice in social work practice. 5. Apply critical thinking skills within the context of assessing and integrating new information. 6. Analyze the impact of social structures, institutions, policies, and practices upon client systems, particular for populations at risk. 7. Recognize the need to develop generalist social work practice skills with diverse systems of all sizes, in both urban and rural settings. View Class Schedule
