A study of social and psychological factors influencing individual delinquent behavior patterns. Emphasis on preventive and rehabilitative programs and the role of community agencies such as social service agencies, juvenile courts, and youth authorities. Visits to selected organizations and institutions. Typically offered Fall Spring. Prerequisite(s): SOC 10000 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Define juvenile delinquency from a legal and sociological perspective, and document a history of delinquency in America. 2. Differentiate between the various theories of delinquency and discuss how culture, diversity, social stratification, families, schools, neighborhoods and peers may play a role in delinquent behavior. 3.
