Catalog description

A review of the scientific and theoretical issues that contributed to the development of modern psychology. Emphasis is placed on historical themes that continue to be influential in the science and profession of psychology. Typically offered Fall Spring. Prerequisite(s): PSY 12000 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the philosophical discussions and questions that influenced the development of psychology. 2. Discuss the influence of disciplines, such as biology, physics, neuroscience, and mathematics on the establishment of psychology as a science. 3. Examine the major schools of thought, such as structuralism, functionalism, psychoanalysis, and behaviorism, and how they shaped modern, psychological principles, methods and diversity within the field.
