This course examines women’s participation and impact in American politics, with emphasis on behavior by both citizens and political elites. Important themes include women’s impact on the political system, challenges faced by female leaders, political outreach to and responses from female voters, and/or gender dynamics in executive politics. Prerequisite(s): POL 10100 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Describe and evaluate the basic gender dynamics that pervade the American political system. 2. Understand and analyze the gendered strategic decisions of candidates, political parties, the media, interest groups, and voters. 3. Interpret and critique political science and journalistic accounts of gender in campaigns, elections, and representation. 4.
