Catalog description

This course is a survey of the main trends and major figures in the philosophy of love and frienship in the western trasition from antiquity to the contemporary period. Using the method of history of philosophy, this course will explore special topics (the ethical basis of love and friendship, the transition from eros to agape, the body-soul dichotomy, philosophy of sexuality and embodiment,etc.), using original writings (in transition) of authors ranging from Sappho, Plato and Aristotle to Foucault.
