Catalog description

A study of some major social and political philosophers from Plato to contemporary authors. Issues such as justice, rights and freedom, community, and the “globalized” future will be considered. Typically offered Fall Spring. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Identify political theories held by major philosophers and/or schools of thoughts, such as Plato, Aristotle, Hobbes, Hegel, etc. 2. Describe conceptions and justifications of social good and of political state. 3. Explain and evaluate important philosophical arguments regarding aspects of social and political theory.
