Catalog description

Explores the principles involved in the protection of people and property from fire and explosion. Basic fire safety terminology, fire chemistry and extinguishment, fire safety references and standards, and fire safety management are presented. Also discussed are control measures for common fire and explosion hazards and the design of buildings in terms of life safety and fire suppressive systems. Typically offered Spring. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Explain the correlation between OSHA Regulations and Fire Protection Standards and Codes. 2. Understand basic fire science. 3. Be capable of identifying Common and Special Fire Hazards. 4. Identify simple building construction features. 5. Apply Life Safety Standards and International Codes to various occupancy classes. 6. Identify various Alarm, Detection and Sprinkler Systems. 7. Apply and utilize the National Incident Management System. 8. Develop and present a viable Fire Incident Action and/or Prevention Plan for a selected structure. View Class Schedule
