Cognate Residency: Knowledge Translation

Catalog description

Students apply knowledge from pre-requisite courses to develop a project focused on translating knowledge into contemporary healthcare policy and delivery. The emphasis is on designing model-driven evidence-based strategies focused on transforming nursing practice and healthcare in a variety of contexts. Residency activities provide students with opportunities to define the scope of the knowledge translation project, obtain baseline information, engage with stakeholders, and prepare a project proposal that addresses sustainability and cost. Prerequisites: NUR 67600. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Analyze data and information from a variety of sources that substantiate a need for the knowledge translation project. 2. Consult with residency facilitator and stakeholders to delineate the specific focus and goals of a knowledge translation project. 3. Develop a specific plan to translate evidence into practice that integrates best available evidence, implementation models and strategies and is congruent with the context, stakeholder and diagnostic analyses. 4. Determine in collaboration with stakeholders outcomes that are appropriate to measure effectiveness of the knowledge translation project. 5. Collaborate with stakeholders to identify plans for sustainability or de-implementation as needed. 6. Perform cost analyses to justify initiation of the knowledge translation project.
