Health Policy Residency For DNPs

Catalog description

This residency provides an opportunity for DNP students to gain greater understanding of the ways public policy affects state, national, and international healthcare delivery systems and resources. Students will interact with top policy makers at the local, state, national, and/or international level to explore the many forces, including political, economic, social, and technological, that influence current policy, its design, implementation and evaluation. Permission of department required. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Prerequisite(s): NUR 65600 FOR LEVEL GR WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- OR NUR 63200 FOR LEVEL GR WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Develop skills to effect change in the state, national, and/or international healthcare system. 2. Participate in the legislative process through discussions with legislative members and their staff. 3. Analyze the influence of special interest groups, economics, the media, coalitions, professional associations, and think tanks on developing healthcare policy. 4. Discuss the impact of fiscal and budgetary changes on health policy formation and implementation. 5. Participate in policy and ethical debates, utilizing processes by which policies are developed, analyzed, implemented, and evaluated. View Class Schedule
