Catalog description

This course will introduce students to basic application of epidemiologic methods and procedures to the study of population health, including the distribution and determinants of health and diseases, morbidity, injuries, disability, and mortality. Epidemiologic methods for the control of conditions such as infectious and chronic diseases, mental disorders, community and environmental health hazards, and unintentional injuries are discussed. Other topics include quantitative aspects of epidemiology, study design, and screening for disease. The goal of the course is to enable students to become informed and intelligent consumers of epidemiologic literature and to apply and translate epidemiological principles in health communication.
