Catalog description

This course focuses on the elements of evidence-based practice: best available evidence, patient preferences, and clinical decision-making to produce optimal patient outcomes. The student identifies a practice inquiry problem and crafts a searchable question, conducts a comprehensive literature search for the best available evidence, critically appraises the evidence, and synthesizes the findings to inform best practice recommendations. An examination and analysis of all elements of evidence-based practice occurs throughout the course. Permission of department required. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Prerequisite(s): NUR 51000 FOR LEVEL GR WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Create search strategies for multiple data bases to acquire best available evidence to answer a practice inquiry question. 2. Analyze theories and frameworks that guide evidence based healthcare accommodating multiple types of evidence. 3. Critically examine the quality of primary and synthesized sources of evidence. 4. Interpret meta-analytic and meta-aggregate data as they relate to clinical practice and implications. 5. Examine the role of patient preferences and clinical expertise in the development of evidence based practices. 6.
