Catalog description

Students analyze and apply advanced knowledge of theory and evidence-based practice to manage care for youngest to oldest adult patients across the wellness-illness continuum. Developing clinical nurse specialist competencies that provide consultation and collaborate with nursing personnel, healthcare providers, and organizational systems. Through holistic assessment, health promotion, and illness/disease management, students effectively transition patients into and out of acute care settings while providing consultation, collaboration, and initiating organizational change processes. Using systematic assessment and evidence-informed problem-solving methodologies, students identify and address nursing care and organizational issues, evaluate patient outcomes, and generate theoretically sound advanced nursing interventions within complex adaptive healthcare systems, while articulating ethical and legal concerns at patient, nurse, organizational, and community levels. Prerequisite(s): NUR 60110 FOR LEVEL GR WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Analyze theoretical frameworks, empirical evidence, and clinical nurse specialist professional role competencies (consultant, collaborator, teacher, coach, researcher) to enhance influence among nursing personnel and within healthcare organizations in the context of adult-gerontologic nursing practice (Aligns with EOP SLOs 1, 2, 3 and 4). 2. Assess patient, nursing practice, and organizational problems across the youngest to oldest adult wellness-illness continuum using systematic methodologies and evidence-based approaches (Aligns with EOP SLOs 1 and 3). 3. Implement theory and evidence-based interventions, teaching/coaching strategies, and planned change processes to manage patient care, address organizational issues, and meet learning needs of patients, families, and nursing personnel (Aligns with EOP SLOs 1, 2, 3 and 4). 4. Evaluate outcomes of adult-gerontologic clinical nurse specialist influence with respect to patients, nursing personnel, and organizations using systematic evaluation methodologies and evidence-based assessment processes (Aligns with EOP SLOs 1, 2, 3 and 4). 5. Articulate ethical and legal concerns at patient, nurse, organizational, and community levels while introducing evidence-based innovations within complex adaptive healthcare systems (Aligns with EOP SLOs 1, 2, 3 and 4).
