This course prepares Family Nurse Practitioner students to utilize advanced practice knowledge and skills to diagnose and deliver culturally appropriate, person-centered health care to women and children in all phases of health. Students will learn how to manage reproductive health, well childcare, stable chronic conditions and acute illness in women and children who are commonly encountered in the primary care setting. The course emphasizes the use of evidence-based practice guidelines for care. Students continue to integrate health promotion and health maintenance into the primary care of the young family. Students will develop their ability to critically think and advance their diagnostic reasoning skills. Students will apply knowledge of clinical research, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and conceptual frameworks to the primary care of children, women, and their families. Prerequisite: NUR 51101. Prerequisite(s): NUR 51101 FOR LEVEL GR WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate the ability to integrate advanced knowledge, critical thinking, and clinical judgment to formulate differential diagnoses based on synthesized assessment findings in women and children (Aligns with Program Outcome #1). 2. Examine the pathophysiological changes associated with at least two specific health problems (in women) and at least two specific health problems (in children) and articulate the resulting implications for disease management (Aligns with program outcome #1). 3. Evaluate multiple evidence-based pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments for common health issues encountered by women and children (Aligns with program outcomes #1). 4. Implement a comprehensive care plan for women, and children with acute and chronic conditions, integrating a focus on social determinants to promote health equity and improve overall well-being (Aligns with Program Outcome #1, #2). 5. Create a personalized management plan by applying scientific principles and adhering to evidence-based practices, aiming to optimize patient outcomes in women and children (Aligns with Program Outcome #1). 6. Demonstrate a person-centered care plan that incorporates appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, considering factors like cost-effectiveness, patient acceptability, and adherence to optimize treatment outcomes for women and children (Aligns with Program Outcome #1, #2).
