Theoretical And Ethical Reasoning In Advanced Practice Nursing

Catalog description

This course examines the integration of nursing theory, other conceptual models, ethical frameworks, and decision making for the advancement of the nursing discipline and population health outcomes. The course is underpinned with the Ways of Knowing framework. Students examine the relationship of theoretical constructs to research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement. Ways in which evidence-based practices can improve health equity, social justice, inclusion, and diversity, is embedded throughout the course. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Apply the Six Ways of Knowing to clinical reasoning as it applies to advanced practice nursing knowledge (Aligns with end of program outcome 1; DNP end of program outcome 6). 2. Evaluate the relationship of theoretical knowledge and ethical frameworks to advanced practice nursing (Aligns with end of program outcomes 1 & 3; DNP end of program outcomes 1, 4, 6). 3. Develop strategies, using ethical principles and reasoning, to address ethical dilemmas, overcome personal biases, and evaluate the outcomes in the role of the advanced practice nurse (Aligns with MSN end of program outcomes 1, 2, & 4; DNP end of program outcome 2). 4. Examine the interface of evidence-based practice to theoretical and ethical knowledge (Aligns with MSN end of program outcome 1; DNP end of program outcome 3). 5. Analyze concepts important to the role of advanced practice nursing (Aligns with end of program outcomes 2 & 3; DNP end of program outcome 6). 6. Implement self-care strategies using the Code of Ethics, community resources, and technology (Aligns with end of program outcomes 2 & 3; DNP end of program outcome 3, 4). View Class Schedule
