Theoretical And Ethical Reasoning In Advanced Practice Nursing

This course examines the integration of theory/conceptual relationships, ethical frameworks and decision making in the development of advanced practice. The course is underpinned with the Ways of Knowing framework. Students hone reasoning skills through exploration of historical, theoretical, contextual, and practical aspects of theoretical and ethical nursing practice. Students examine the relationship of theoretical constructs to research and praxis through concept analysis, theory evaluation, ethical dilemmas analysis, and discussion of the application of theory to practice. Ways in which theoretical and ethical thought is imbedded in evident-based nursing practice is discussed. Typically offered Spring Summer. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Apply the Six Ways of Knowing to clinical reasoning as it applies to advanced practice nursing knowledge. 2. Analyze and evaluate the relationship of theoretical knowledge and ethical frameworks to advanced practice nursing. 3. Develop strategies, using ethical principles and reasoning, to address ethical dilemmas in the role of the advanced practice nurse. 4. Discuss the interface of evidence-based practice to theoretical and ethical knowledge. 5. Analyze concepts important to the role of advanced practice nursing. View Class Schedule
