This course focuses on developing expertise in evidence-based pharmacologic management across varied patient populations. Pharmacology, pathophysiology, and clinical decision-making are integrated to optimize therapeutic outcomes while prioritizing patient safety, patient preference, and quality of care. Prescriptive authority for advanced practice registered nurses, on both state and federal levels, are discussed to ensure compliance and ethical practice. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Synthesize evidence-based, advanced pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles of drug categories to guide safe, effective prescribing for diverse patient populations across the lifespan. Analyze complex relationships between pharmacologic agents and physiologic/pathophysiologic responses utilizing technology and clinical decision support tools to optimize therapeutic outcomes. Design person-centered pharmacotherapy plans for common conditions encountered across the lifespan integrating principles of pharmacotherapeutics, best available evidence, cost effectiveness, and patient preference to improve individual and population health outcomes. Apply risk assessment, deprescribing, and pharmacovigilance while collaborating with interprofessional teams to minimize medication-related harm and optimize therapeutic outcomes.
